Forager Ontario is a specialty food store located in Bayfield on Ontario’s West Coast. The local food concept store will source out and offer its customers primarily local and regional fresh meats, Canadian artisanal cheeses, in-season produce, chef quality prepared foods and pantry items to fill the larder. Forager Foods will be open daily and year round. Be sure to check out our FORAGER BLOG for our weekly news
Forager Foods comes from the response of food consumers to intensive farming practices that can be environmentally harmful and not particularly healthy when considering what is added to meats and vegetables to get to market. The food shop in Bayfield will be offering natural and family farm raised pork, veal, chicken and beef as well as duck bison, elk and venison which are all raised within a short distance of the store.
As food prices continue to rise, people will take more consideration into what they are offering their friends and families. In other words, the consequence of higher pricing will have people thinking more about the quality and sources of their food. Sam Gundy, owner of Forager Foods believes that “eating locally and regionally plus knowing where your food comes from is good for your health, the local economy and most importantly the environment.”
Forager Foods has hired a full time chef who will oversee the implementation of the prepared foods menu. The chef will be using 100% of the ingredients available in the food shop and offering family and individual sized servings. Some menu items are gourmet mac n’ cheese, classic stews, pot pies, soups/sauces and even curries.
Forager Foods has partnered with over two dozen farmers and food producers in offering a unique Ontario-centric food shop offering one stop shopping for food lovers. Mr Gundy anticipates the specialty food store will be a destination for many foodies, “our goal is to promote the great products Ontario offers, even in the height of winter.
